Having drinks with my friend and coworker Courtney is enough to make me enjoy whatever I get from the bar. But this Coconut Basil Gimlet from the Stone Rose Lounge in Hollywood, California started the evening on just the right note. So often coconut drinks are overly syrupy, screaming out beach vacations and tropical umbrellas, but instead this was simple, cool and refreshing with just the right balance of flavor.

The ingredients are a simple variation on the Vodka Gimlet, which is what I based these ratios on:

Basil Coconut Gimlet:

1 1/2 oz Coconut vodka (Ciroc and Smirnoff would both be good.)
1 oz lime juice
1 tsp powdered sugar or simple syrup.
Fresh basil… leave some whole, but tear some as well, releasingthe natural flavors.

Serve with food and interoffice gossip.
